Newspaper article by John Mark Lambertson and originally published in The Ottawa Herald March 25, 1988. It highlights major tree-planting efforts in Franklin County in the settlement years. It is the first of two articles tracing local efforts that helped make Arbor Day a significant observance on the Great Plains.
