Newspaper article by John Mark Lambertson and originally published in The Ottawa Herald February 27, 1988. Article tells of the Massacre of Shannon's Guards by a company of 30 vigilantes led by Capt. Charles F.W. Leonhardt, a member of the secret anit-slavery society called the "Danites," led by Gen. Jim Lane. Lambertson worked out that the massacre took place just west of the Greenwood Baptist Church in Greenwood Township, Franklin County. Shannon's Guards were named for pro-slavery territorial governor Wilson Shannon.
