It follows ""Barren Plains Gave Birth to Arbor Day" published in The Ottawa Herald March 25, 1988. The March 26 article follows Samuel T. Kelsey's tree-planting efforts in Franklin County.
Newspaper article includes a photo of Pomona between 1900 and 1905. The town was founded in 1870 by S.T. Kelsey and J.H. Whetstone and was designed to be a fruit-producing colony.
