Description

The Western Home Journal newspaper was owned by I.S. Kalloch who was also president of Ottawa University. This article tells of the progress in establishing Ottawa University. It gives background information on the donation of 20,000 acres by the Ottawa tribe. The first building (Tauy Jones Hall) was nearing completion. Prof. Kelsey was in charge of the farm. The three instructors of the academic department were Prof. Fales, Lucy Hatch, and Miss Thomas. The Indian boarding school had 40 pupils. Teachers were Mrs. Mayhew and Miss Luce.
