Description

In 1869 Reverend Robert Atkinson made a speech about the origin of Ottawa University. He recounted the Baptist missionary Jotham Meeker's life of service with the Ottawa tribe. He talked about the influence of Tauy Jones and his wife Jane. The impetus for starting a school came from the tribe which wanted to see its children educated so they could succeed in American society.
