Description
Jane Jones had written to the Department of the Interior on July 9, 1883, in reference to her share of the funds arising from the sale of lands belonging to Ottawa University. The acting commissioner, E. L. Stevens, wrote her that a District Court ruled the Ottawa Indians were citizens of the United States and could hire whatever attorneys they wished to manage their trust fund. He gave her advice on how to get her share. The letter is fastened in the upper left corner with a brad.
