One of the most representative industries and one that is recognized as the leading institution of its kind in this section of the country is the marble and granite monumental works of C. J. Vincent & Son at 113 South Main street. This business was established in 1906 and has since that time been headquarters for manufacturing of monuments, vaults, cut stone, building blocks, etc. For thirty-two years Mr. Vincent has been engaged in this one line of business perpetuating the memories of the deceased, building vaults, etc., and he is recognized as one of the most skillful and thoroughly versed men on stone and granite sculpture work in the central west. The place is neatly arranged displaying a large amount of work of artistic and original designs. The work rooms are well appointed and equipped with pneumatic tools and other machinery suggested by inventive ingenuity and years of experience. The most modern and improved methods are employed and all work is guaranteed to be exactly what is wanted at the most reasonable prices. Eight experienced and skillful operators are employed and the business conducted annually amounts to more than $15,000. The granite and marble used by this firm is bought in car load lots, and extensive stock is carried at all times. Mr. C. J. Vincent, the senior member of the firm, was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1845. He was a resident of the state of Ohio for forty-eight years. He is a Mason of high standing. His son, C. M. Vincent, was born and educated in Ohio and is actively engaged in this business, superintending the work and is the chief designer. A high-power Buick automobile is used in calling on prospective customers in the surrounding territory.
