From “The hitching post…” column in the Ottawa Herald, a series of articles about early Franklin County schools researched by Bruce Fleming and written by Herald Editor and Publisher Jim Hitch. 31 May, 1990.
Forest Grove was located one mile north of Rantoul and a half mile east on the north side of the road.
None of the oldtimers in the area today knew the school by name according to Fleming. Some knew there was a school there and said there were rocks in the field from the foundation.
The school was in the Marais des Cygnes River bottom and probably closed after the big flood of 1909. The only record of the school was found in an atlas of that year.
