Miss Elizabeth Lingard is one of the prominent teachers of music of Ottawa. She is a graduate of the Conservatory of Music of Des Moines, Ia., and the School of Music of the Kansas State University. One who would succeed in any line of human endeavor, must of necessity prepare a solid foundation, and from it build fortune and success, or failure will be the inevitable result. Music is an art, and in its relation to the higher accomplishments, stands first and foremost of all arts. It is the nature of music to inspire, and is calculated to give hope, courage and joy to the human soul. The Bible is full of song, and from the earliest ages music has been part of the lives of the human race, and especially those of finer sensibilities and accomplishments. There are many people in this world of today who maintain that a musical education is unnecessary luxury because of the lack of this part of their education and are void of tune and harmony. Civilization, however, requires this accomplishment for a very different purpose.
It has been said that “music comes from the soul and across that border science cannot pass.” It may, by science and education be brought out of the dull untutored mind and ascend the loftiest heights of ambition. One to be able to properly train the unskilled mind must have a complete knowledge of the science and a knowledge of human character and be thoroughly in love with the work. Miss Lingard is a young musician of more than ordinary ability, has especially prepared herself for the proper instruction of pupils. She is thoroughly in love with her work, and as a music teacher seems to meet with substantial appreciation and high praise. Her School of Music was established in 1896, and from the beginning has met with popular approval and success. She has the highest indorsements that can be obtained in this country, and has manifested her ability as an instructor, and in which she is very enthusiastic as well as proficient. Certificates are given to those graduates who finish the courses taught by Miss Lingard, but none excepting for proficiency and thoroughness. Miss Lingard has a large class and deserves the substantial appreciation she is receiving. Her studio is located at No. 204 South Main street.
