Jordan and Mechem

Jordan & Mechem is the style of one of our most prominent real estate firms, as well as the oldest firm in the city. Mr. W. W. Jordan is a native of Pennsylvania, and Mr. C. C. Mecham a native of Ohio. In enterprise, push and progress they are, however, thoroughly western men. The firm was organized 20 years ago and has been continuously in business ever since. They buy and sell land in large quantities. They recently sold a tract of 12,000 acres in Florida to northern parties. They are operating extensively in lands at Mobile, Alabama, which is a locality of splendid climate and one of the most productive in the world. Tobacco is produced there equal to the Cuban leaf, while it exceeds California in the production of small fruit. Mr. Jordan received a letter a few days ago from a party who sold $450 worth of peaches from one acre of ground. The timber of southern Alabama will become very valuable and be in great demand for Cuban export as soon as the cessation of hostilities is an assured fact. They have formerly had a great trade in lumber with Cuba but expect a greater trade than ever soon. In addition to the extensive business conducted by them all over the country, they have a large list of farms and ranches for sale or trade in this and adjoining counties. They look after rentals and have for sale or exchange a large list of city property. They are honorable and reliable and parties desiring information in regard to lands in Kansas or the south will receive courteous and prompt reply to any reasonable request.
