Ottawa University was founded in 1865 as a result of the cooperation of the Ottawa tribe and the Baptist Mission Board. The Board sent Jotham Meeker to Kansas as a missionary in 1832.  The University is located on land formerly owned by the Ottawa tribe. The college was established to educate the children of both the white settlers and the tribe. As with any important undertaking, there were many bumps along the way. Today Ottawa University is still thriving and educating students from across the country and around the world.

Our aim in these pages is to share the history of OU and honor those who worked, attended, and supported the university throughout its long history. We will do this through original documents and letters, pictures, and artifacts. We hope you enjoy our efforts.
